"Bludgeoning someone good requires methodical effort that is not captured with the quickness of a bullet. Sure, a bullet usually leaves a surreal entrance hole and a nice sized exit wound, but it does not compare to the look of a caved in jaw, mashed, skull, or dislocated collarbone that can be accomplished with a baseball bat. The best part of bludgeoning someone is that it can be done with a chugging effect similar to an anaconda swallowing prey. Yeah, a slow beat down is what you twisted listeners will get when you spin the Dyscrasia/Putrid Pile Split CD in your player.
First up on the disc is Dyscrasia. The guitars come at you in an avalanche of thick down-tuned riffage courtesy of TJ Thompson and John Gilbert. Together they play with good variation between fast and slow with a gloominess in between. Sometimes they solo in the songs, which takes nothing away from the brutality of the music. Neil Ruppert’s bass turbidly pounds with slaughterhouse efficiency, and the frantic drumming of John Gilbert keeps a voracious pace. Ruppert also does the vocals on this album. He resonates like a pig chortling a babies fingers in its mouth. Overall the music is a non-stop ass kicking with a sound and vibe that reminds me of Artery Eruption or Catasexual Urge Motivation. Clearly the effort exhibited on this recording displays musicians that have gone a long way towards defining themselves and their sound in comparison to their 2000 split with Dislimb.
Putrid Pile is next on the split and the only problem with this is that they offer nothing new. Almost all the songs are from their last album Collection of Butchery. The first 2 are studio cuts and the last 4 are live. What makes the album worth hearing are two elements. First: In the live music it is fun hearing Shaun LaCanne talk to the crowd before and after each song. No he isn’t talking sick shit. He just sounds real mellow, friendly, and hung-over (He thanks Chris for getting him “Totally wasted.”), which is a stark contrast against the intensity of the songs. Second: The live portion sounds clear and the studio part was produced just as well if not better. Putrid Pile/LaCanne, methodically thump the listeners spine with a slew of fast and slow slamming guitar riffs, and bass that is backed by solid drum programming. Vocally LaCanne goes from traditional deep death vocals to Grindcore screeches. This is a flare that makes the music more diverse and head banging fun.
As a whole this disc is not for the weak. Sure the brutality is a little slower than what Disgorge (Mexico), or Ancient Necropsy have to offer, but that takes nothing away from its intensity. As a split this a good combination both musically and geographically due to both bands being from Wisconsin. Personally, I think this shit is good inspiration and rationalization for a gratuitous bludgeoning."

"This is a great sampler EP. Everything is perfectly done, expertly mixed, all of the instruments are in the right places, and everything is very tight. Every band member plays to his ability, and it shows through brilliantly in practically every song. The vocals in particular are bestial, Lord Worm-esque growls, screams, and bellows which fit perfectly with the over-technical (not in a bad way) and schizophrenic playing style. I find old Malignancy works to not even be in this caliber due to the production that prohibited a lot of older Malignancy EPs and even Intrauterine Cannibalism from being excellent. This however is crystal-clear and completely comprehensible despite the sheer amount of time changes, cervix-snapping breakdowns and whirlwind guitar frenzies (PINCH HARMONICS TO THE MAX) jammed into this 16 minute mosh fest."

"CARDIAC ARREST was the first supporting band to the latest ROTTING CHRIST concert at the town of Chicago. I really liked them, especially for their old-school sound and their honest on stage performance. Actually, their high spirit helped us to warm our bodies and ears a little bit since it was a really cold night. After their performance, I talked to Adam who informed me that they were preparing their second full-length album and I made him to promise me that he would send me a promo copy as soon as it has been ready.
The band hails from Wheaton of USA and was formed by Jim Nichols and Adam Scott sometime in 1997. From their formation they had gone through several lineup changes and actually remained silent for almost a year, starting from 2003. The band’s reactivation was followed by their debut release in the form of a MCD entitled "Heart Stopping Death ROT". After some live shows and more lineup changes CARDIAC ARREST managed to release their first full-length album, "Morgue Mutilations", in early 2006.
So, in the middle of 2008 the American band - having signed a record deal with Epitomite Productions - is proud to release their brand new Death/Grind album entitled "Cadaverous Presence". If you take some time and visit the band’s MySpace page you will be informed that their influences come from the early Death Metal scene with bands like CANNIBAL CORPSE and - of course - DEATH. Actually, the aforementioned influences can pretty much describe what will happen if you press the play button on your CD player. Death - almost Grindcore - vocals, fast drum breaks and guitar shreds that blow your mind. The album opens with the instrumental "The Inevitable", that bears a slow yet heavy tormenting tempo; the headbanging rhythm is for warming up your neck since the homonymous song is up next. "Cadaverous Presence" gets you by the throat with fast ultra distorted guitars and a rhythm section that looks towards the heaviness of SIX FEET UNDER. This is a self-produced release, so you can excuse the rather "dry" sound in the drums and the minor problems in the mixing process. In fact, I found that due to this production the album sounds really old-school, waking some memories when this Metal scene was born. Judging by the album’s artwork and song titles you can easily guess the theme of the lyrics which fille with Gore! I really enjoyed "In His Name They Spill Blood" with the neck-snapping fast break, "Make Them Die Slowly", with the SLAYER-esque guitar solos in, and the ton-heavy "Among Us" that justifies the MORBID ANGEL influence."

"I would be unfair to say that Putrid Pile's second full-length, 'The Pleasure In Suffering', is exactly the same album as their first. Since I'm feeling charitable, I'll say that it is ESSENTIALLY the same as their first. Never since Bolt Thrower have I heard a more infinitesimal change in style or quality from a death metal band, setting Putrid Pile somewhere in the realm of Cannibal Corpse as far as consistency goes. Aside from the production having gotten louder/clearer/'wider'/more distorted, quite literally nothing has changed at all between the two releases.
'The Pleasure In Suffering', like 'Collection Of Butchery', is the sound of Putrid Pile: fast, gory brutal death metal which employs a blasty more than filly drum machine and lots of tremolo riffs and big held chords, as well as low gurgly vocals and high shrieky vocals. It all sounds very eeeeevil and Death Metal with capital letters. It's very brutal because it's very fast, has extremely thick and bassy production, and is intentionally abrasive in essentially every regard. This is probably what non-metal people think of when they hear the words 'death metal'. It really is just 'Collection Of Butchery' part two. It even has the same number of tracks and a running time that differs by just over half a minute. Really though, did we expect anything more than that? Your enjoyment of this album is directly proportional to your enjoyment of the last one.
I don't know about you, but I'm still starvin' for them baby brains."

Myrkskog deliver a technically stunning and ultimately brutal style of death metal that is good, but doesn't switch tempos enough to really make my jaw drop. They stay at one speed for practically the entire album, think if zyklon had no breakdowns and if hate eternal was, well hate eternal then you get what i'm talking about. As for the production it's decent i mean the vocals are almost inaudible, i find myself straining to here them
